I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched business owners force themselves through work that drains them simply because they’ve convinced themselves it’s what they “should” be doing. It’s one of the fastest ways to flatten your creativity and derail your year.

Your energy tells the truth long before your mind does. If something lights you up, you feel it. If something pulls you under, you feel that as well.

Most of us were never taught to listen.

We were taught to push – to push through fatigue, to push through dread, to push through the quiet, nagging sense that something isn’t right.

That’s where people burn out… not because they’re weak but because they keep overriding the messages their own system is trying to give them.

One of the most useful things I’ve learned in my own business – and through years of watching how clients work – is that your energy is often the cleanest piece of data you’ll get.

It shows you what’s aligned. It shows you what’s outdated. It shows you where your attention actually wants to go next. When you stop treating your energy as an inconvenience and start treating it as information, the decisions become far easier.

If you fancy a gentle reflection this weekend, try asking yourself a few simple questions:

Which tasks drain you every single time, no matter how much you pretend otherwise?

Which tasks feel lighter than expected?

Which projects do you instinctively return to, even when you think you “should” be doing something else?

Where does your curiosity spark? Where does it shut down?

Notice what comes when you ask yourself these questions; the answers will tell you more than any spreadsheet or strategy document ever could.

Energy doesn’t lie. When you listen to it, everything else becomes clearer.
