This morning I hit a worry patch.  

I didn’t see it coming and, for a moment, my mind skidded out of control and all kinds of scary scenarios flooded in.  

Worry patches are the mind’s version of black ice and, if we don’t get them under control swiftly and put our positive selves back in charge, we really can end up with a massive mood crash.  

I coach many of my clients through these situations. In the heat of the moment, worry patches can feel hideous and insurmountable, but they are relatively easy to deal with once we know how. 

Worry patches can be triggered by all kinds of scenarios – something on the news, thoughtless words from a loved one, an unexpected bill, a dream… the list is endless.
 Just like black ice, the worst thing you can do is panic.  

Slow down. Recognise what’s happening. Take corrective action. You can either safely come to a stop, then reset, or navigate to a different course.  

Breathe. Concentrate just on the breath. ‘I am breathing in’. ‘I am breathing out’. ‘I am breathing in’… carry on until you feel yourself calm, then actively choose what to do next to move onto a more positive pathway.  

Go for a walk – even if it’s just around the block. Exercise is an excellent way to change your mood. Get some fresh air and perspective.  

When you’re feeling more balanced, choose what to move onto next and make a plan to avoid the black ice! 

Remember it can be just for today. You don’t need to make massive changes to your future – just choose something productive to get on with that will give you a sense of achievement today.  

Set some positive intentions. What do you want to achieve? By when? What do you want to manifest into your life/business? How? When will you start?  

Whatever you do, remember that we all hit a patch of black ice every now and then. Go easy on yourself. Once you know how to steer out of it, your future becomes far easier to navigate.
