We’re at the point in the year when day and night sit almost exactly level, right before the balance tips toward the dark – traditionally when the harvest gets brought in, whatever’s grown over the last several months, gathered in and looked at before winter makes that harder to do.
Business doesn’t usually get that pause built in. We’re three-quarters through the year, and most of us haven’t stopped once, all year, to look at what’s grown since January versus what we’ve just kept doing because stopping felt riskier than continuing.
Some of what you started in spring will have come good without much fanfare, and you probably haven’t given it the credit it deserves. Some of it won’t have, and you’ll have kept watering it anyway, because pulling it up felt like admitting you’d got something wrong, and admitting that in public felt worse than just carrying on.
Nobody builds a pause into the calendar for either outcome, so most of us run on momentum instead of information – which explains both perfectly well without any judgement attached.
Something to sit with this week:
Go through what you started this year – the offers, the content approach, the way you’re spending your time day to day – and separate what’s grown from what you’ve just been tending out of habit. Just look clearly, once, before the year tips into the half where everything gets harder to see. Fixing things comes later, if it needs to at all.
Bring in what’s worth keeping. Let the rest go to seed in its own time.
