This weekend, Asha and I will be deep in the South.
It’s the South weekend of #TheBigOne – where we’re working with the energy of water.
Not just the element – but everything it represents. Flow. Emotion. Movement. Surrender. Depth.
And before anyone thinks this is some soft, “flowy” concept – this is about real movement. Real change. Flow isn’t about doing nothing. It’s about doing what feels right – not what you think you should be doing. When we’re in flow, our energy aligns. We have direction. Our businesses move with ease. When we’re out of flow, it feels like we’re fighting against ourselves. Our work becomes harder. More frustrating. Out of step. Here’s something we’ve been working through with our group recently that I want you to sit with: You can’t be a control freak and be in flow at the same time. So many people try to hold tightly to control – managing every detail, planning every outcome, forcing things to happen – while also trying to stay in flow. But you can’t have both.
Just like you can’t be fully committed to your growth while holding on to your own limiting beliefs. Flow means trusting that things will move in the right direction without you controlling every step. You need to loosen your grip and let things unfold. Here’s how to start getting back into flow:
1. Check where you’re pushing.
Are you forcing things that aren’t ready? Are you trying to control the outcome rather than trusting the process? 2. Let emotions move through you, not control you.
Emotions are meant to move. Don’t let them become roadblocks. Feel them, process them, and keep going. 3. Let go of the need to control everything. Sometimes, what you’re trying to hold on to so tightly is actually the thing that’s keeping you stuck. 4. Get curious about where things are flowing naturally. What’s already moving with ease? Lean into that and trust it will carry you to where you need to be. Here’s your thinking point for the week:
Where in your business or life are you trying to control things, when flow might actually be what’s needed?
Hit reply if something’s come up while reading this – I’d love to hear how you’re feeling about control vs flow.
